Hilstin were awarded the prestigious City of Port Phillip’s Design Development Award in the “Best New Single Dwelling or Alteration” category, for their alteration of this Park Road property in Middle Park.

Set within an established heritage precinct in Middle Park and on a prominent corner site, the brief to turn a heritage shop into a five bedroom house was an inspiring prospect.

Category 1: Best new single dwelling or alteration

Carefully balancing the conflicting requirements of heritage controls and the client’s desire for a significant increase in floor space influenced the design from the outset. Working in close partnership with Ewert Leaf Architects we created a solution which integrated an expansive modern addition to the existing building.

Decorative cladding was chosen to compliment but clearly differentiate the new structure from the existing building and this facade became a key driver of the final design. MEME, a Melbourne based Interior Designer assisted in the creation of contemporary, finely crafted and customised space within this incredible home.

We had the pleasure of partnering up with Hilstin in the redesign and alteration of this award-winning heritage property in Middle Park. We were immediately impressed by the way the team combine a professional approach with practical solutions. They embraced several existing challenges during the renovation but their ability to listen and interpret design resulted in this stunning, beautiful property.
